Doing Good Is Good Business for A lot of Reasons

It doesn’t take much effort to help others. Not only does doing good for other business owners or non-profit organizations just feel good, it’s good for many reasons.

Every quarter I support a local or regional fundraising event in my community that is typically associated with one of my members. I use my vast marketing power to display, link, promote and market the event to other women entrepreneurs hoping they will in return support the event in some way. The only cost I incur is the small amount of time to post and market the event. What I also incur, is an overwhelming feeling of goodness in doing so.

Business owners should think beyond self-promoting and narcissistic views sometimes to do good for someone else. Here’s what the return on investment can be:

* Being known in the business community as a giving entity helps to increase your company’s brand name and likability. Good feelings towards a company is priceless. Good corporate deeds usually get shared by many people.

* In most cases, a benefactor of your generosity will repay it with cross promotion. A logo, link or small description about your company could get posted on their website or social media marketing sites helping your visibility to a new audience. Don’t be afraid to ask for that support if you feel you are giving a lot to someone. They should reciprocate if they have the means.

* If you are asked to volunteer or attend an event you are promoting, take them up on the offer. Say “Yes.” You might just meet some amazing new contacts, prospects or clients in the process. New economic connections might easily be made through your generous act.

I suggest you try the rest of 2013 to support one non-profit event a quarter and see how doing good is truly good for your business..and soul.

    That is a wonderful philosophy! I feel the same, so I started a “Small Business Spotlight” series that I share in my blog, online newspaper, and on FB, Twitter, and Google+. Each week I highlight a different small business. I write on who they are, what they do, and share links to their relevant sites and pages. In this way I hope to help promote other small businesses and give them a little more exposure. Like you, it makes me feel good to help – so I guess that is my selfish pleasure!
