Inspire Staff

June 19, 2008

To have a successful business, I believe women entrepreneurs not only need to recruit and train their team, they also need to inspire them. An employee needs proper technical training and knowledge to thrive at their job as well as a manager who believes in them in to truly succeed.

This philosophy came from my parents, who graduated from college as physical education teachers and coaches. They learned to develop a good athlete they needed to coach their “mind, body and spirit” in order to bring out each individual’s potential. How they “coached” their players on the field and court was the same way they inspired their employees in their seasonal ski shop.

Every individual has the potential to achieve high levels of success if their manager knows how to inspire, encourage and motivate them properly. They responsibility falls on our shoulders as their leaders.

Summertime Business

June 18, 2008

Women entrepreneurs all over the region are gearing up for three months of “summertime business.” It’s inevitable when you live in New York State, if you are the mother of college or school aged children, or if your clients enjoy the warm temperatures, vacations and carefree living they wait for all year long. Even though we aren’t school girls anymore, there is something magical about the first day of Summer when life becomes a little more relaxed. Lemonade, fireflies and warm breezes sweep away the stress that drives us all year long.

Yet as business women we have to continue to work to keep our companies viable. We can’t afford a three month summer vacation and expect to increase sales and gain marketshare at the same time. But we should remind ourselves that Central New York does business a little bit differently during the glorious summer months that can benefit us in many ways.

Sitting by the pool allows us the opportunity to relax and dream big about our company’s future. Sipping lemonade with some women we’ve met since January can lead to productive collaborate partnerships in the Fall. Reading up on new business trends and techniques can prepare us for better business practices when the leaves start to change.

So embrace the first day of Summer and realize this special time of the year can do wonders for your mind, body and spirit which will eventually help to propel you and your business forward.
